Unwrapped

How on earth could I ever imagine cheap beer tasting any good? Of course it didn’t, but I guess my kids (the ones old enough to indulge in alcoholic beverages) will welcome it though. Not because they won’t appreciate quality beer, but mostly ‘cause they’re young and constantly out of money. Free beer = good beer?

I still haven’t done any of the writing I thought I would; like the stories about post WWII Germany, senior citizens speeding at night and a 50 year old snakeskin purse once belonging to a distinguished lady from East Prussia. These narratives might emerge later, but at the moment they’re fighting for space alongside more personal and emotional stories and events. Which I’m note sure ever will surface here, but I’ll still have to process them somehow.

Previous two paragraphs I started in the beginning of this week, and then I was away for a few days now, and I had every intention of wrapping up the post in one way or the other, but whatever thoughts I had in mind slipped away. Therfore - The End!

Wieder Zu Hause...

Back from Germany, with a lot of good writing material, and cheap beer. I'll be staying closer to town for the next week or so, as my brothers lent me their flats while away on holiday. The first choice has no internet connection though, so for blogging and checking e-mail and such I'll have to "run" over to the other one.

In a way this could be where the real "relax-mode" kicks in, and I look forward to do what ever I want. I can even have guests, there's an extra bedroom. Wanna hop on the next train? I can show you the wonders of Gothenburg, if I remember myself where they are, that is. Or we can explore new ones.

Repeating Success

Since we had such a good time last year, despite the car breaking down, we decided to do it again, and on Monday me and my father are leaving for Germany. But I might have to sedate him with some Gammel Dansk, in order to keep him from nagging about my driving habits. Apparently he consider it's vital to keep both hands on the wheel at all times, at exactly 10-2 position. Can't see why he's so bothered with me steering with my knees, holding the mobile in one hand and a beer in the other?

I really look forward to take the ferry to Fredrikshavn and drive across Jutland this time, and I expect some pleasant scenery and a stop or two for coffee and Kæmpe Kondi, my all time favorite popsicle. And with my dad having bought a new car I also think we'll arrive safely at Ellen's later in the evening without having any technical hickups.

By for now, and I'll be back in a few days. :)

Bumble Bees & Coffee Cups

It took me a week and a half, but finally summer mode struck me as well. Last week was a hell of a rollercoaster, which left me so out of balance it lasted way into this week. Enough of that, everything passes eventually (as the old man said passing a kidney stone), and today I'm actually enjoying myself. First, as mentioned earlier, a good night sleep, and later on a quick swim in the lake followed by coffee on the beach. As I sit here, back in the garden at my mum's house, the only thing I hear is the bumble bees in the rose bushes, and the wind gently blowing through the birch trees. There's a cake in the oven, and wine for the thirsty ones. Perfect picture of summer bliss, right?

So I Guess I'm No Real Princess After All.

Remember the old fairy tale about The Princess and the Pea? The one about the young girl who claims to be Royal, and is proven so by the ability to feel a pea through twenty mattresses and twenty feather beds. On another occasion I wrote a post about my sore back which I illustrated with that princess on her twenty mattresses and so, although that particular incident had more to do with the absence of any soft bedding. I also thought I've been whining about the bed here at my mum's, but I might have refrained from that, not wanting to hurt her feeling if she were to read about it. But now as she's taken care of the business (long overdue...), I can happily announce that my nights here have improved.

That old, thin, VERY uncomfortable foam mattress has been replaced with a much nicer one, and for the first time I slept like a baby, if not as a princess.

PS. My mother has actually been aware of the situation all the time, but just couldn't figure out which solution would be the best - new mattress, which kind, or maybe a whole new bed? And I always said too: "I'll manage". Typical me, by the way. And something I'd like to move past - just managing, I mean.
