A Philosphers Gettogether

How I wish I could bring them back, all these great thinkers. It would be interesting to throw a Christmas Party and have like twenty of them there. Just imagine the discussions! Today I give you a few words from one of them, words I seem to live by every day:

”…I shall try little by little to reach a better knowledge of and a more familiar acquaintanceship with myself. I am a thing that thinks, that is to say, that doubts, affirms, denies, that knows a few things, that is ignorant of many [that loves, that hates], that wills, that desires, that also imagines and perceives;…” René Descartes

Wouldn't that be just awesome!! I hope I'm on the list of guests - not as a great thinker but definitely as a great listener!!!!

I think I'm actually addicted to these ancient and past philosophers, and I see a future where I will study many of them in details. I simply adore philosophy, and those intelligent minds truly were and are impressive!

By the way, remember to invite Xanthippe, too. She is supposed to have been a remarkable woman and thinker, although it's all just a wild guess today since women did not have a voice in those days!! Truly she must have been a patient woman being married to Socrates, who could spend an entire day standing in one spot - from dusk to dawn - to think and scrutinize an idea, opinion, rule or indeed reflection....

Of course you're invited!

I'm getting this really weird image in my head, picturing them all at this party getting drunk and silly, and quarreling their hearts and brains out. And just imagine all the "action"...

I was thinking of writing an invitation list, but I'm afraid someones going to be left out. Especially the ones we haven't heard of, but who nonetheless should be there. All these silent voices. Better just leave the doors open, and the let the jungle drums roll.

I agree, Karin! Nothing better than opening the doors to awake the silent voices!! Imagine the two of us engaged in stimulating and vivid discussions with Socrates, Rousseau, Locke, Hume, Descartes, and Søren Kierkegaard. Talk about opening up doors to creative and exciting new worlds!!!

What's on the menu? Aquavit and lutefisk, or wine and fresh grapes?

Considering all ages, nationalities and cultures that would be represented I figure I'll have to throw a gigantic Smorgasbord. Water and wine, Absinthe and Aquavit, nectar and ambrosia - a feast for body and mind.

Heaven on earth, this is looking ecstatically good!! I wonder what the combination of Absinthe and Aquavit would do to my body and mind?? I have a feeling I would get insanely reflective and immersed ;) and while you're at it; why not add a few smalahove too (hi,hi)!

I already feel the sensation, and it's marvelous! Have you set a date with the philosophers yet? Will they be there on St. Lucia Day maybe??

I think I'll have to hire Tropical Islands to accommodate them all, 'cause why stop at philosophers? What about all the poets, writers and artists? Well, some of them could apply for all titles, like Khalil Gibran.

It's gonna be a looong night...
